guest speaker
I found the presentation that was made on Business Plan's very informative, I learned alot about preparing a business plan, but I also learned that there was a lot of work involved and I realized how important an executive summary was to a business plan and having and exit strategy would be benefit in the decision making with the investor's or lender's involved. It all seems pretty stressful, but the end result should be satisfying.

On-Line Shopping
On-line shopping was something I personally thought I would never do, but it's very popular now, I was first very spectical of trying it because of entering your credit information, but most sites that I shop in are pretty secure, its just easier to do online shopping, I buy event tickets and at times I will buy clothes on line, I guess today everyone's favorite site is ebay, because you can find things that are different, in today's fast paced world, you dont always have the time to get to a shopping mall and some times with christmas around the corner, its more convenient then to stand in line waiting to pay for your item's and all the pushing and shoving and bumbing into carts..it's not fun, the store's are way to crowded, besides you often find better deals on line then you would in the department stores.

professional
I think through school, students are being trained to be professional's, to become or to be professional you must be trained at what you do, it's like every process in life, we need to have the education, to me to be professional you need to present yourself in a professional manner to earn respect of others in business like manner and be educated in the field you are working in, it's important that you must take your position seriously and not to just take it or considered it as just an income coming in, you must be aware of every aspect of your position and its a constant learning experience, your not expected to know everything but its important that you make yourself aware of what is going on in your field of expertise, if you truly want to be professional.

why is this subject Taboo?
after reading this article, I couldn't understand how we are suppose to comment on this article on business stand point, it talks about how we should educate ourselves and how our leadership should take the initiative to educate us and take on more responsibility for financial transparency.

Learning Journal
I have been working for the Band Council since 1994 under many programs and department, I guess it would be everyone's dream to own their own business one day, I have never owned my own business but I would like to but it seems like there is never enough time to get the training I would require to open my own business. I feel that by taking this class I would be motivated enough to get the tools I require to open my own business one day. At the present time, I am operating a Business for my Band Council in the fisheries department and by taking these classes I am getting the necessary tools to continue to grow within my department.
Quiz B - what kind of learner are you
I had a difficult time to answer this question, I guess what works for me, is reading over and over my readings and discussing the issues with my classmates, this is what makes me understand better, in our previous classes, we had to do some critical thinking and then discuss our readings with the entire class and getting others feedback and their interpretation of the reading materials gives me a better concept then how I may be viewing the reading materials and also to have others have their opinions on certain issues.

Selling Native American Soul
After reading these articles, I started thinking about how much First Nations value their sacred rituals and ceremonies and how often they we are exposed by non natives, they sell their books, movies and paintings on how they may view our lives and not the reality of it all, I don't agree with anyone making any profit on our way of life, we are being exploited all for the sake of money. In this article they also mention Edward S. Curtis, who was known for taking picture and writing books based on his knowledge of the "indians" so who goes around carrying costumes to make his subjects look "Indian".

I really enjoyed this week's reading, all dealing with legal issues and how other's interpret their own sentencing procedures.. I think that posting signs in your yard would actually be pretty funny, but seriously, I don't think it would really make a difference, some people just don't care, personally, I wouldn't want a sign in my ward saying that I was felon, but when you live in a small community everyone knows everything, even before you've done it!
The circle of justice and alternative sentencing express different views on sentencing, for minor things Iwould agree on the having the community to decide on its sentencing, posting a sign in the yard for assulting someone seriously, I think his punishement should have been severe, I think he should have gotten his jail time, he should go to anger management and not just one session, but this wasn't the case. The last story was my favorite one, if only that really happened in the real world.

School is coming to end and kids prepare for their graduation and getting ready to hit the real world..my nephew is graduating on the 20th of June, then off to college. Kids grow up way to soon..and finally my husband and I are building our OWN home. The circle is almost complete!

Back to school
This class is not as easy as I thought would be, but I am hanging strong, I have this opportunity to show my newphew who is doing so poorly in school, that if I am capable of going back to school and given the most that I can to achieve my goals, then maybe he too would find the motivation that he needs to put all his efforts in his school work.
They don't realize that what they do now, will effect them later, I know this from experience, I quite school when I was 17 and had to attend Adult Education, I graduated, but having a high school or equivalent is not enough if you want to be successful, I have been working for my Band for 14 years and during this time, I spent more time getting training and night classes and still go to work every morning. It's not easy...But who ever said that life would be easy...

When I got home last night after our class, I started reflecting on some of discussions we had concerning James, some of the issue's that were raised concerning what advise should be given to the mother just took me by surprise. one suggestion that was made was to place him with a native family. I just don't believe that ripping him out of a family that he feels comfortable and secure with would benefit that child, imagine what would happen to him mentally.
How do we know that James wasn't placed in a native home 16 other times, we also do know why James was placed in foster care, we don't know the situation! I personally feel that any advice to be given to any mother is just to love and care for your child.

First Week of engl1104
so, here we are, the first week of classes has ended, alot of work is required and I'm feeling overwhelmed already, english is not my strong point, although, I enjoy reading , writing has never been my strong point. I'm the type to person who just gets right to the point, I can't sit there and write pages of pages on one topic. But I won't get discouraged and I will put as much effort I can into this class....

Chapter 13 assignment
The two types of business threats are surveillance of employees and the use of business related information.
I think that too much personal information is given when we purchase item's either by cheque or debit or even a credit card, this information can easily be taken and copied, my father was faced with this twice already. when you guarantee your hotel reservations with a credit, well his was stollen, and some idiot went to vegas and gamble, took a joyride to the airport by limo and only got caught when he was trying to take out the cash and had to have someone to approve it from his room...

Chapter 12 assignment
I really enjoying using email for regular communication with other departments, for me I think its more convenient then picking up a phone, when all you need to do is ask a simple question, I also think that its easier to get my message accross.
an example of "netiquette" is discussing one topic at a time when sending an email and another element is using an automated reply, so if your unable to reply to the email, the polite gesture would be to add automated reply so the user knows that you cannot reply at this time.

Technology in schools, a long standing debate on its pro's and con's, I have to say that in my own personal experience, technology has been a very useful tool, each and everyone of us that work in a office rely on technology to get through the day, where would we be without a computer, using a old fashion type writter to type your letter's, it's funny cause I remember getting one at christmas when i was a child. Everything today is all digital, you dont need a film for your camera, you just have to do download your pictures on the pc and its over, no more trips to the photo shop...and for kids getting them hands on experience with the computer, it can be useful in schools for research and interaction with others....

a new age of technology
A new age of technology and of communication, when I first starting working for the Band, I don't remember having a palm to schedule my appointments and cell phones were huge at the time, now they are compact and multi taskers, they have so much capabilities, they can take pictures, you can listen to music, text message and have access to the net, how cool is that? basically our means of better social interaction...

Technology
In the ever changing world of technology, what has it done for me and what have i learned, I think that technology has given me the opportunity to gain more knowledge in many area's, in recent months I learned for the first time what a blog was, until the course began I had to no knowledge of blogging and its very interesting and fun, i gained more information on the use of a smart board and how to prepare a power point presentation. in my area of work, I need to have continuous access of the internet to find out what is happening in the fisheries world...

As technology advances, it's scary to think what hacker's are capable of doing, especially with what you see in movies, what hacker's are capable of doing, i think back at one of our class questions, are we alone? watching the news and seeing all these people getting caught for child pornagraphy, I'm glad that we are not alone and that there is someone out there monitoring these sights especially for the safety of the children...
